Those lovely bottles always makes me think about old medicine jars in pharmacies. During the Sunday live stream I even get the question “Is it medicine”, well we will try this medicine for sure!
Lagavulin Lg7 “2017 release” (56.8%, Elixir Distillers,
4 Bourbon Barrels)
Nose: Coastal and aerial peat, brine, lemons, citruses, cold ashes and hints of wood smoke.
Mouth: The alcohol integration is very good and the texture is oily. Coastal and aerial peat, lemons, iodine, brine, green pepper, cold ashes, powerful campfire smoke, earthy notes, meaty notes and powerful cold ashes again. It’s perfectly balanced and powerful. Not overly complex but it works very well!
Finish: Long. A lot of wood smoke and cold ashes, hints of peat and wood bitterness lingering at the end of the mouth.
It’s less fruity and round than the 12yo CS 2017 release, here we are on a more dry and austere profile, very good indeed!
That’s a fair and efficient Lagavulin as the 12yo CS 2017 release is, the profile is a bit different but it works as well and it’s still very quaffable so pay attention!
